This is Tainted Threads
In March of 2020, during the start of lockdown, I had just quit my job. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my future, especially during such a dark time with the pandemic. All I knew is that I didn't want to be stuck at a job that didn't offer me a creative outlet. I grew up creating art, had a strong passion for fashion and felt the most fulfilled when I allowed myself to be artistic.
After brainstorming through ideas, the idea of Tainted Threads was born. I didn't want this to be your standard festival fashion clothing brand with indistinguishable styles. I wanted to create something unique that people haven't seen before. I wanted a brand that stood out.
It first started with me distressing/bleaching t-shirts and making chain link harnesses, but still felt like something was missing. It wasn't special. I started to learn more about braided clothing and that's when I ran to my mom (who is the most talented person I know) and asked if she knew how to braid clothes, to which she replied she did. I wasn't surprised by that answer since she has been working in fashion her whole life. She had been making all my outfits from when I first started attending festivals.
Since then, Tainted Threads has been a mom and daughter duo where we bounce ideas off each other and create the most unique, one of a kind braided clothing that you won't see anywhere else. Everything we do is handmade, from creating our own sewing patterns, to sewing the pieces, to cutting and braiding. We started incorporating different colors of elastic throughout the cuts/braids of our items which brings our own signature to braided clothing that hasn't been done anywhere else. I am so thankful for my mom who is constantly teaching me new things and creating so many beautiful pieces. Without her, Tainted Threads wouldn't be possible.
Every piece is made with so much love and attention to detail and designed to be one of a kind. I can confidently say our pieces aren't just clothing, they are art.
