Washing Instructions
Hand wash all of your TaintedThreads pieces with cold water and lay flat or hang to dry.
Detailed explanation:
Step 1: Start by filling up a plastic wash tub dishpan or sink (if washing in the sink make sure to clean prior for sanitary reasons) with cold water and laundry detergent of your choice and mix to create the bath.
Step 2: Submerge your TaintedThreads piece in the cold soapy water and begin to swish, knead (similar to baking) and press your garment and focus on GENTLY scrubbing around the armpits/crotch area and any other parts that have markings/stains. You will start to notice dirt coming out within the first few seconds. Do not use rough motions. According to Steve Boorstein (The Clothing Doctor) 98% of dirt will come out the first 5 minutes. It is not necessary to let the piece of clothing soak in soapy water for hours/overnight, as these fabrics are very lightweight. Letting garments soak for extended periods of time will cause the fibers in the fabric to weaken and the bonds between dyes and fibers will be affected and may lead to dye bleed and color fading. This also applies to the colored elastic that's weaved through the bodysuit.
Step 3: Pour out (or drain if using sink) the soapy water and refill it will cold water, no soap. Begin to rinse your garment by gently pressing until the soap is gone. This process can be repeated 2-3 times, or until the garment is no longer soapy and water is clean.
Step 4: Gently PRESS out the excess water, do not to wring or twist. Lay your garment on a towel in its original shape, and roll the towel and press out the water. When finished, lay your garment on a new clean towel to dry or hang to dry.
KEY WORD: BE GENTLE, these pieces are delicate :)
You can wear gloves while hand washing to prevent any skin irritation or discomfort.
This hand washing process shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.
DO NOT BLEACH, MACHINE WASH OR TUMBLE DRY.
We test a piece from each batch of fabric and elastic that we get in for colorfastness and follow these hand washing steps to ensure the colors were properly adhered to the fabric and make sure there is no immediate dye bleed or color fading. Please remember not to soak your garments for hours/overnight. This step is not necessary and can damage your garments.
